Custom made exclusively for MR2Heaven
As demand for these kits grew, we became increasingly frustrated with inconsistent supply, falsely advertised and unsafe products. Common issues included receiving wiring of various lengths (sometimes too short to be used), different types of switches/connectors, smaller than advertised thin AWG wiring (16-18 AWG) instead of an expected thicker wire, and unsafe amperage fuses and wattage ratings, which will run wires extremely hot and is a fire risk we're not willing to take when used for our power hungry purposes in an enclosed environment, such as a car or in an engine bay. Last thing you want is wires to melt and short out and your fuses not popping off to save you.
With MR2 mid engine layout usage in mind, our kit offers custom spec 10ft extended wiring lead lengths and a heavy-duty, high-quality build with premium components. It features thick 14 AWG wiring, dual output leads for connecting two components, a 100-amp relay, and a weather-resistant sealed fuse holder with a properly and safely sized 20 amp fuse considering 14 AWG wiring. The components are encased in heat shrink and premium protective sleeving, and it includes an illuminated on/off switch that can be placed anywhere in the cabin.
Connecting directly to the battery ensures maximum power and minimizes voltage drops, preventing poor performance and tripping/damaging of OEM fuses/relays/circuitry. Highly recommended & essential for custom headlights, dual fans on engine lid or upgraded intercooler fans. If using for fans, we recommend ordering one harness for dual engine lid fans and another for intercooler fans.
14 AWG Wiring - Safely rated for 280 Watts - 20 Amp Fuse
With 14 AWG 105 degrees C type AWM rated wiring, this relay kit according to guidelines is safely rated to 15-20 amps of current at around 280 watts at around 60 degrees C. (14V x 20 amps = 280 watts) making it robust, powerful and versatile for multiple uses. Considering its placement in a hot engine bay, we opted for a 20 amp fuse.
Why 20 AMPS and not 25 AMP fuse? Even though wiring can handle 25 AMPS at around 90C (which is under its 105C rating), we always should include some factor of safety, maybe the wire is inconsistent with insulation thickness and has a hot spot etc. When running 25 AMPS, this can pose an increased fire risk especially in enclosed environments such as wiring being in protective sleeves and in hot engine bays. If wired near near flammable materials or cheap low temp rated plastic, may melt/warp, short out, end up sparking or catching fire. For safety purposes, we don't recommend going higher than default 20AMP fuse.
How to Wire
Wiring this kit is made easy and simple. Connect positive to battery terminal, negative to ground of chassis, position/adhere the switch to interior of your car, and connecting each lead's + and - with your components power leads.
For experienced users, there are actually many crafty ways to utilize this harness kit. Switch can be used in addition to, or modified and or removed to use with different input sources such as from ECU, OEM circuitry signals etc to trigger relay/activate this wiring kit
Notes
- Green 30-AMP fuse in picture will be swapped out by default for a yellow 20 Amp fuse for safety purposes.
