The Most Proven & Popular BBK for the SW20 (1990–1998 MR2s) — Perfected.
The factory MR2 Turbo brakes are dangerously undersized. With just 1–3 hard high-speed stops, the OEM brakes can overheat, fade, or warp— putting your car at serious risk. At a glance, it’s obvious: the rotors are very tiny, thin, and not built for upgraded power levels, modern speeds, or repeated heavy use.
Perfectly Sized & Lightweight Design
Our BBKs feature 12.72” rotors front and rear paired with Wilwood Forged Superlite Calipers, cutting over 20+ lbs off stock brakes for reduced unsprung weight and sharper handling. The entry-level kit uses proven MK4 Supra and RX8 rotors, while our bespoke flagship 2-piece rotors—featuring a 6061-T6 aluminum hat and high-grade G3500 iron disc—remove an additional 22 lbs compared to our one-piece rotor setups
Class-Leading Cooling & Durability — Low Upkeep Costs
Competitors’ undersized, limited by off-the-shelf availability 12.19” rotors rely on very high-temperature pads (very loud BP20s) to compensate, but our 12.72" 1- and 2-piece rotors outperform them through proper sizing, superior engineering and design. With an intentional increase in mass (only 1.5–3.5 lbs per rotor), 60–65 curved cooling vanes and optimized rotor face thicknesses, our 2-piece rotors achieve:
- 100–200°F+ cooler temperatures per high speed stop
-
~700°F lower temps than stock 91T rotors per the same stop
- Qualifies for virtually silent BP10 Pads - Even under demanding track use
Deliberate? Yes, lighter isn’t always better — we chose durability, longevity, more cooling vanes and performance over shaving every ounce. Thinner rotors may save weight, but they wear faster, run hotter, and need frequent replacement — a tradeoff we refuse to make
Our lower operating temperatures (600–1050°F) and exceptional thermal-shock resistance significantly reduce wear on pads, rotors, and brake fluid—saving at least $1,000 yearly in replacement pad/rotor costs compared to undersized setups. Thick, high-mass rotors also stay below crack forming/warping temperatures, unlike thin alternatives prone to rapid high thermal cycling. This means less stress, weird vibration issues, pad deposits, and headaches for you.
Our lightweight 2-piece rotors, designed to dominate & excel, deliver the same stopping power and reliability as the one-piece versions, but with less weight and superior thermal efficiency, allowing you to push harder, longer, without compromise--While still only using BP10s. Yep.
Track Proven
Proven in the MR2 community for over 20 years, our BBKs deliver consistent, repeatable performance under extreme conditions. Paired with only BP10 pads (~1050°F), the 12.72" rotors have handled full aerodynamic upgrades, 400 whp / 395 tq, and 275-wide square setup racing slicks across 10,000–12,000+ track miles over 5+ years on numerous race tracks with professional and notable drivers—without issues or frequent rotor replacement.
Our lightweight 2-piece rotors have performed flawlessly over 3+ years of hardcore track racing without requiring rotor/pad replacement thanks to its superior cooling via 65 curved vanes—48+ hard laps and the rotors still look brand new. And the best part? There’s no need for loud, train-squealing BP20 race pads that can be heard blocks away—BP10s run virtually silent.
Confidence Inspiring
More mass and better heat control mean cooler, more consistent brakes — delivering stable pedal feel and confidence-inspiring performance. The kit, including calipers, DOT-approved stainless steel brake lines, brake pads, and Grade 12.9 hardware, is Made in the USA.
Unmatched Braking Freedom & Performance
Our big brake kits (BBKs) are built for enthusiasts who demand freedom, reliability, and performance without compromise. You’re not limited to a single brand’s pricing, availability, or generic one-size-fits-all components. Choose from a wide selection of rotors and pads to suit your needs. Every kit is designed with affordability, heavy duty, long-term durability, and high performance in mind, making it the perfect solution. If you don't need all the bells and whistles, a full front big brake kit can be had for as little as $900 & will last you countless years w/o expensive annual replacements.

Fitment
- All 1991-1998 Toyota MR2
- 17" Wheels required
Wheel fitment template
This kit is compatible with most aftermarket wheel setups for the MR2. A minimum wheel diameter of 17 inches is required. For optimal fitment, we recommend wheels with an offset of +32 to +35 or lower (so +17, +22, +30 etc). However, spoke design also plays a significant role, and in some rare cases with +30 or above offset, a 5mm spacer may be necessary. For example, if you plan to run 17x8 +42 for example, you may need a 10mm spacer. To confirm compatibility or if you're unsure, we provide a custom wheel-to-caliper fitment and clearance template specifically designed for this kit. (Front) (Rear)
Confirmed wheel specs that fit
- Fronts - Enkei RPF1 17x8 +35 and lower offset. Volk Racing TE37 17x9 +22.
- Rears - Enkei RPF1 17x9 +35 and lower offset. Volk Racing TE37 17x9 +22.

Notes
Brake Bias - Our front and rear kit, when combined, delivers brake bias dynamics that meet or surpass OE standards:
- With an OEM Non-Turbo Brake proportioning valve, our F&R kit performs exceptionally well with BP10 & BP20 pads, significantly improving OEM 1993+ Turbo Brake Bias curves. It achieves 60-63% front bias from 0.5 to 0.7G and maintains an ideal 63%-68% front bias from 0.7 up to 1.4G. This helps prevent rear wheel lock-ups as weight shifts to the car's front during hard braking.
- With an OEM Turbo Brake proportioning valve, our F&R kit performs decently with BP10 & BP20 pads. It maintains a stable 62-64% front bias and around 36% rear bias from 0.5 to 1.4G of deceleration, similar to the OEM 93T brake bias.
Disclaimer - These brake components are designed for off-road use only and should not be used on streets or highways. By ordering from us or using our supplied brake parts, you agree that we are not responsible for any damages, injuries, accidents, or deaths. All responsibility lies with you.
Technical Supplemental Information
Brake Rotors
We carry a variety of rotors in-house, but if international shipping costs are a concern, you can order your own rotors to save on shipping. Check out our full rotor part number table for more options. Link to Full Rotor Part # Table
Our Flagship 2-Piece Rotor Solution - Exclusively designed for our big brake kits and not compatible with Supra or RX-8 vehicles, this rotor solution results from extensive research and refinement. With over 83 rotor designs analyzed, we've achieved a perfect blend of balance, heavy-duty usage, weight savings, and maximum performance for the MR2. They also eliminate unused rotor space found in one-piece rotor rings. Featuring race-grade 65 curved internal cooling vanes, these rotors provide nearly the same cooling surface area as full-sized rotors while being significantly lighter. Front rotors weigh approximately 14-14.5 lbs, and rear rotors 10.5 lbs, offering superior cooling and performance. They meet G3500 grade iron standards and feature black E-coating for added corrosion resistance.

Free temperature-changing paint indicators - Factory-applied heat indication paint markers, valued at $150, are included at no extra cost on our 2-piece rotor offerings. The green paint transforms to white when rotor temperatures exceed 840°F, while the orange paint shifts to white at 1020°F. When rotor temperatures reach 1200°F, the red paint changes color.

Brake Pads
We recommend BP10 and BP20 pads for optimal performance.
BP10 pads are perfect for 99.9% of users, ideal for street and heavy duty track use, offering a high temperature range (up to 950-1050°F) and minimal to no noise.
BP20 pads are best suited for dedicated track-only cars, handling sustained temps up to 1200–1250°F. While they deliver top-tier performance, they may squeal loudly when cold. Usable on the street, but not recommended
Higher temperature pads like BP-30 and BP-40 are race use only.
We also carry HAWK, and EBC pads, all of which are rigorously tested and proven. Other brand pads such as Carbotech, PAGID, StopTech, Project Mu also works, but to simplify logistics, we only carry HAWK, Wilwood and EBC.
Calipers & Hardware
Wilwood Forged Superlite Calipers feature a lightweight, 4-piston design that is both budget-friendly and track-proven. Manufactured in the USA, these calipers can be powder-coated in Black or Red, or even custom colors for an additional $1400. Alternatively, you can order Gray and customize the color yourself. Selected to maintain brake bias on both Turbo and NA MR2 models, these calipers are a high-quality and stylish upgrade. We stock gray, red, and black calipers in-house, so no 3-4 week wait time is necessary.

Premium Brake Caliper Mounting Brackets are crafted from a single piece of CNC-machined 6061-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum, providing strength and durability while being one-third the weight of most mild steel alternatives. These brackets are hard-anodized for exceptional protection against extreme environments.

High-quality, US-made Technafit D.O.T. approved one-piece brake lines are crafted from premium PTFE cores, zinc-plated steel fittings, and stainless wire braided covers, all encased in a clear PVC outer layer for protection against chemicals, elements, and debris. These lines prevent swelling, expansion, and rubber deterioration commonly seen in stock OE lines. In contrast, some MR2 sellers use cheap, unbranded lines with multi-piece fittings, which are prone to leaks and deformation due to cost-cutting measures. Be aware of the potential risks associated with inferior products.

High-Quality Hardware Kit features heavy-duty Grade 12.9 black oxide bolts/screws, stainless steel and zinc-coated washers, and lock washers, all sourced from the reputable McMaster Carr. These components are designed to withstand harsh environments.
For Two-Piece Rotor Assembly, we use 18-8 stainless steel socket head cap screws and U.S. Military Standard 21042-5 self-locking "jet nuts" to secure the top hat to the rotors, eliminating the need for safety wire.

If an item is In Stock, it is ready to ship and will be packaged and sent out as quickly as possible.
Because many of our products are produced in limited quantities, popular items can sell out between production runs. With production and manufacturing lead times often ranging from 1-3+ months, unexpected demand can quickly deplete available and planned inventory, and waiting for future production runs may mean missing one—or even multiple—batches and facing a significant delay.
Pre-Orders help us accurately gauge demand and plan production quantities while allowing customers to secure their spot & receive their parts in a timely manner. This helps reduce delays and the chances of products selling out unexpectedly, while ensuring we can continue bringing more specialized products to the community.
Not all pre-orders are the same. Depending on the product, a pre-order may be for an existing product that is temporarily sold out or a new product that is still in development.
The product page will provide the most current estimated fulfillment timeline and any relevant project details.
Restock Pre-Orders — Existing Products
Many of our products are produced in limited quantities, and popular items can sell out between production runs.
If an existing product is sold out, we may open a pre-order for the next production batch. These products have already been developed and produced previously, but additional manufacturing time is required before the next batch is ready.
Pre-ordering secures your place in the next production run and ensures you don’t miss the next available batch.
Development Pre-Orders — New Products
Some pre-orders are for completely new products that are still being developed.
Developing a new product is a significant process. Depending on the complexity of the project, it may involve:
- Product design and engineering
- Prototyping and testing
- Tooling and mold development
- Fitment and quality/mold revisions
- Manufacturing preparation
- Final production and quality control
A single product can take 3 months to over a year to fully develop before it is ready for regular production.
During this process, prototypes, molds, fitment, or manufacturing methods may require revisions. If we identify an issue that does not meet our standards, we may need to make corrections before moving forward with production.
This can occasionally extend the estimated timeline, but we believe it is better to correct an issue before shipping rather than rush a product to customers that does not meet our standards.
We always aim to provide the best estimated timeline available at the time a pre-order is listed.
However, estimated dates are not guaranteed. Manufacturing schedules can change, and development projects may require additional time for prototyping, revisions, production, or quality control.
We do not believe in rushing production simply to meet a projected date.
Before a product ships, it must go through the appropriate manufacturing, finishing, fitment, and quality control processes to ensure it meets our standards.
If there are any significant changes to the estimated timeline, we will provide pre-order customers with updates as information becomes available.
Good products take time. We'd rather get it right than get it out fast.
Our goal is to continue supporting the MR2 community by developing new and unique products that may not otherwise exist.
Pre-orders and group buys allow us to better determine demand and commit to larger production quantities. Larger manufacturing orders can help reduce per-unit production costs, allowing us to pass a portion of those savings directly on to our customers while also helping fund the development of future products.
By participating in a pre-order, you are not only securing your product—you are also helping make new projects possible.
Depending on the project, participating in a pre-order or group buy may provide:
- Up to 20% off or more on future regular product price
- Priority access before regular inventory becomes available
- The ability to secure your place in a limited production run
- The opportunity to help bring new, community-requested products to market
Because pre-orders and group buys allow us to commit to production quantities, tooling, manufacturing, and product development, pre-order purchases are generally non-refundable once the order has been placed.
If you no longer wish to wait for your pre-order, you may have the option to convert the full amount paid into MR2 Heaven store credit, which can be applied toward MR2 Heaven-branded products.
Please note that pre-order fulfillment timelines are estimates and may change due to manufacturing, fitment, quality control, or other unforeseen development delays.
In the unlikely event that a product is ultimately unable to be produced or the project is permanently canceled, all affected pre-order customers will receive a full refund.
Thank you for supporting our projects and helping us continue to develop new products for the MR2 community.
